Article 11 - (Amended By Cabinet Decision 5 /1997) Starting Date : 19/02/1997 The Department of Preventive Health shall be responsible for the following: Proposing general policy in the field of combating communicable and epidemiological diseases. Developing programmes for combating of communicable and epidemiological diseases and supervising the implementation thereof. Carrying out the necessary check-up of workers in the field of food to ensure that they are free from infectious disease, and issuing the necessary certificates in this regard. Proposing the permitted levels of environmental pollutants, food contaminants and composite substances, developing plans to reduce such levels, and drawing the relevant measures for improvement of the environment health and maintenance of health of work environment, in coordination with the competent bodies. Following up the monitoring activities related to drinking water, and drainage and disposal of garbage and human, animal and industrial waste all over the country in coordination with the competent bodies in the State. Registering birth and death incidences and issuing the necessary certificates thereof, keeping the records thereof and preparing the relevant required reports. Participating in the study and preparing health requirements for commercial, industrial and public shops, in coordination with the competent bodies in the State. Health control on imports of goods, foodstuff, and other, and damaging invalid ones in coordination with the competent bodies. Inspecting the various shipping means that carrying foodstuff to make sure their safety. Laying out awareness and health information plans in order to achieve and implement the objectives of health policy.

Carrying out the necessary check-up for the following categories: Injured persons transferred to it to estimate the extent of the injury and determine their disability proportion that may result from such injuries. Applicants for civil driving licences to assess their physical fitness for getting such licences. Students enrolled in university or delegated to scholarships abroad. Workers in the field of food to make sure that they are free from infectious diseases and issuing the necessary certificates in this regard. Persons coming to the State for work or residence to make sure that they are free from infectious diseases. Employees to determine their physical fitness for appointment, continuation or termination of service for medical unfitness as well as approve their sick leaves. Proposing draft health fitness levels for the civil service posts.
