The public prosecution is an independent judicial authority that assumes the public prosecution in the name of society , supervise judicial control affairs and ensure that law are enforced. The public prosecution has the sole competence to initiate and proceed with the criminal action unless in cases stipulated by law.

The main functions of the public prosecution are as follows:

1. Practicing the power of investigating crimes, for this purpose, it may delegate judicial officers  who shall be affiliated and supervised by the public prosecution.
2. Initiating Criminal action before courts and appeal judgments issued thereon.  
3. Requesting merchants bankruptcy and investigates incidents of bankruptcy by virtue of tort or misrepresentation and undertaking the procedures of initiating criminal case and its proceeding according to law.
4. Proceeding with accountability actions fall within its competence according to law.
5. Investigating requests of guardianship deprivation, limitation, suspension or rejection as well as request of fixing and appointing of guardians , control requests, absence proving and other issues related to persons with no or lack capacity, absent and conceptus.
6. Surveillance in coordination and cooperation competent authorities on juveniles houses, prisons and other places of detention by conducting periodical and sudden visits and examine their records, arrest  and detention warrants, and receive and investigate detainees' complaints and undertake the appropriate action thereon.
7. Disposal with seized items , supervising fines obtainment and receiving and disposal with trusts and deposits.
